Imagine yourself in a doctor’s office and you’ve just heard the words, “I’m sorry to say that…”. Or getting an email from your boss saying they need to speak with you immediately.
How do those things make you feel? Powerless? Scared? Weak?
We each have different circumstances in life. Have you ever felt frustrated at the end of the day but couldn’t really remember a “bad” thing that happened? Have you had several of those days strung together?
Maybe you can identify the bad things. It might be a day where you get another call from a bill collector. When you get off the call you hear a sick child in the bathroom. Finally, on your way to get medicine the ‘check engine’ light comes on in your car.
You may be in that spot now. You may feel surrounded. You may feel backed into a corner. You might be losing hope. It seems like no matter what you do, thing always end up broken. You may be to the point where you are losing hope.
You need a prayer of strength.
It doesn’t have to be theologically deep. It doesn’t have to use big words. It doesn’t have to be fancy.
In fact, Psalms 46:1 says, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
God is always there. He is always able. He is always there. No matter what your circumstances are, He can provide you a refuge of protection. He can offer you strength when you are weak. Ultimately, your soul is in His hands, so despite the problems you face, He is greater.
Here is a prayer of strength, based upon the truths of Psalms 46:1.
Dear God, I know you are healer and protector. I know you forgive the sinner, you heal the sick, and you protect the weak. Father, you know the situation I’m surrounded with now. You know everything I have on my plate. You know that I’m weak and need help. Right now it seems like the enemy is surrounding me and is closing in.I pray that you surround me, and cover me with your protection. God I pray that when I’m weary, you help me rest. I pray that you be my safe haven. I know I can count on you. Please strengthen me God. I have so many burdens to carry but I’m tired from everything I try to keep going. Please give me courage to make good decisions. Give me strength to press on when I want to quit. Please Lord be with me and give me wisdom. Help me to know when I need to stand firm and say no. Help me know when I need to be courageous and say yes. Lord give me the guidance and security that can only come with your love. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
